DIRECTIONS TO ELEPHANT MOUNTAIN HOUSE 

 

 

Elephant Mountain House is located in Lue on the Central Tablelands between Mudgee and Rylstone, NSW.

Travel Time is Approx:

  • 3.5 hours from Sydney

  • 3 hours from Newcastle

  • 2 hours from Dubbo

  • 4.5 hours from Canberra

Note: There is approx 8 km of dirt road to get you off the well worn track. If you plan to use GPS please note that Pyangle Road may be called Battens Road.

Directions from Sydney

  • When travelling from Sydney, take either the Great Western Highway or the Bells Line of Road from Richmond to Lithgow.

  • From Lithgow follow the signs to Mudgee until you arrive in the village of Ilford.

  • 1.5km beyong Ilford, turn right at the large sign to Kandos/Rylstone and travel through to Kandos.

Directions from Rylstone/Kandos

  • As you approach Kandos, you will reach a T-Intersection (turn left), follow this for about 8 km this will take you to Rylstone.

  • When you drive into Rylstone the Hospital is on your right, follow this road and veer left, then at the bottom of the hill turn right into Louee St( pronounced Loo-ee), Rylstone's main st. You will past the Police Station on your left, then several Hotels on the right. Follow Louee St out over 2 Bridges. You are on the Bylong Valley Way .  Follow for 5 kms. You will pass "Louee Winery " sign on the right.

  • Turn left at the sign that says Mudgee -  you are now on the Lue Rd- follow this for 5kms- watch out for a sign "Cudgegong Warmbloods" on the right. Turn right  about 100m further ,  onto Breakfast Creek Rd (a dirt rd) ( It also has a sign Pyangle).

  • This road continues for about 5kms, you will pass a few houses on both sides of the road and  Keeches Lane on the right. You will then go over a small creek crossing , about 50m after that turn left onto Pyangle Rd.

  • Follow this road for 5km, you will pass over a ramp and signs saying Pyangle. On your right is a sandstone chimney and cattle yards. Follow this and go over another ramp. 

  • Turn left into the next gateway and proceed up the driveway. Continue until you enter the garden,  follow the arrows to the back  of the houses, the entrance is straight ahead. 

Directions from Mudgee

  • From the clock tower in Church Street, head towards Lawson Park, keeping it on your right. Go over a bridge and then about 300m after the bridge turn right onto the Lue Rd.

  • Follow this road until you get to Lue. ( about 28kms) Proceed through Lue passing the school on your right, go past the 80km and 100km speed signs, under the railway bridge and up a small hill. ( about 2 kms)

  • At the top of this hill  there is a house on the left. Turn left at this house onto Pyangle Rd (a dirt road). Follow this road for approx. 7km,   you will pass several roads veering to the left do not take them, continue to veer right, until you go over a ramp and past a small  cream cottage. 

  • Turn right into next gateway and proceed up the driveway. Continue until you enter the garden, follow the arrows around to the back of the houses, the entrance is straight ahead.

Directions from Hunter Valley

  • As you leave Denman- follow the Golden Highway to just before Sandy Hollow.Turn left at the sign saying Rylstone- Bylong Valley Way.

  • This is a winding and picturesque road and takes about 1.5 hours to travel. There are some narrow  sections, however it is tar all the way.

  • You will pass through Bylong and about 15 mins later come to the Growee Gulph - 5 kms of winding ascent.

  • At the top of this follow the road about 10kms. There is a house close to the road on the right. The dirt road next to this house is Breakfast Creek Rd- you can take this as a short cut to Pyangle Rd.( See map) Beware however as it is narrow, has 2-3 gates and is rarely graded by council .

  • Alternatively continue another 8kms and then turn right at the sign for Mudgee. You are now on the Lue Rd. Proceed as you would if you were coming from Rylstone.
